How to buy a car from Copart, IAAI or ADESA without a dealer license
Open a free Carena account, wire money to your wallet, and bid. Carena bids on your behalf at the auction.
Copart, IAAI and ADESA sell hundreds of thousands of used, salvage and clean-title vehicles every year. Carena lets anyone in the US bid on them online. You do not need your own dealer license or auction membership: Carena bids on your behalf at the auction.
Step by step
- Create a free account with your email, legal name and home address.
- Wire money from your bank to the bank details in your account. Wires usually reach your wallet the same business day.
- Find a vehicle and set a max bid, or use Buy Now when it is offered. Your open bids can add up to your wallet balance, never more.
- Carena bids on your behalf at the auction. Your bid shows as open, then placed, then won or lost.
- If you win, the final price, the auction's fees and Carena's flat $100 fee come out of your wallet.
- We quote shipping to your address and take it from your wallet too. If your balance is short, you wire the difference.
What Carena charges
Carena's fee is a flat $100. Whatever the auction charges us for the vehicle, we add $100, and that is what you pay: no percentage and no markup. That makes Carena one of the best deals for buying auction cars through a broker.
Two rules to know
You can buy vehicles located in any state except the state on your account address, because Carena does not hold a dealer license in your state. Vehicles in your home state are hidden once you sign in.
Pay what you owe within 48 hours of a win or shipping charge; after that, late and storage fees start and are added to what you owe. If you don't pay what you owe for a vehicle you won (the price, the fees or shipping), the vehicle is abandoned and we have to return it to the auction. You are then charged an abandonment fee of $600 or 10% of the vehicle's price, whichever is greater.
